About the event
A. LOCATION:
To be held at Lake Quivira, Kansas; hosted by Lake Quivira Yacht Club
B. EVENT SCHEDULE on Saturday, June 8th:
8:00 to 9:30 AM: Registration; coffee provided
9:00 to 10:00 AM: Yacht assignments (by lottery) and launching with our help
10:15 AM: Skippers’ Meeting; quick lesson (test administrated on water!)
10:30 AM (approx.): First practice start; immediately followed by Race #1
12:00 PM: Lunch (BYOB and own food; grills and fuel are available)
1:15 PM: Race #2 with Races #2, #3 and #4 following (back to back)
4:30 to 5:00: Trailer yachts (help provided); enjoy everyone’s company!
5:30 +/-: Happy hour; trophy presentations
6:00 PM (approx.): Relax; dinner (BYO; again, grills are available); stick around!
C. MISCELLANEOUS:
-The Pete Peterson Series participants will be judged among themselves with
race finishes averaged.
-Another average of race finishes for all participants (including Pete Peterson
racers) will be recognized with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies.
-Each participant will bring his/her own sails and life jackets. LQYC provides the
yachts with rudders, tillers, bailers, painters, etc. A life jacket must be on board for
each sailor.
-Ice and coolers will be available at the LQYC marina for everyone’s use throughout
the day.
-Shelter, restrooms, sandy beach, wind and sun will be provided (bring the family!)
-Racing participant names will be needed prior to day of race. Please call (913-
927-4475) or email (csegebrecht@kc.rr.com). These will be provided to the Quivira
main entrance gate. Please provide names of anyone else coming in other vehicles.
D. RULES:
-The current edition of RRS including US Sailing prescriptions and the S-16 Class
Rules and as amended in these Sailing Instructions.
-Main and Jib class only. Novices are strongly encouraged to come, get experience,
ask questions – the event is intended to be educational and very friendly!
-Code flag signals will be displayed from the RC boat along with electronic horn
signals from RC boat.
-Race courses will be defined on a dry-write board displayed on port side of RC boat
with lap count and whether starting line is open or closed.
-Each participant will receive a cheat-sheet with all race layouts and their associated
description label e.g “T” or “W”.
-Buoys will consist of large yellow floats (up to four) with large orange floats as
needed.
